The Punch Rig (also called Skirted Punch Rig or Slither Rig) consists of a special shaped weight with an attached skirt paired with a hook (Flipping, Offset, or EWG) and soft plastic bait (typically a creature or craw). The Punch Rig is designed for flipping and pitching into heavy cover, most often grass or thick/matted vegetation. More streamlined in shape than a jig, the punch rig can slip through weeds and into holes where big bass often hold on hot summer days. Tungsten has emerged recently as superior to traditional lead punch weights as the denser material allows for a more compact weight to more easily penetrate thick cover and matted vegetation.
